Summary:
- ChatGPT, Midjourney, and other AI tools can help you create better content in less time if you know how to use them effectively.
- Prompting Midjourney to apply different art styles to stock images is an easy way to create unique feature images and infographic content.
- You can also prompt Midjourney to create logos and icons in a matter of seconds by prompting it with simple keywords and style parameters.
- Since ChatGPT is great at reorganizing information, you can use it to make bulleted lists and FAQ sections in a fraction of the time these elements normally require. Try pasting in your rough notes about a product or service and asking the AI to reformat them as a list of pros and cons.
- ChatGPT can also automate repetitive content marketing tasks like writing meta titles and descriptions. While you may have to tweak the results a little, you’ll save much more time than if you write them by hand.
AI tools like ChatGPT and Midjourney are causing a revolution in content marketing, but these tools don’t make creators obsolete—in fact, they can empower your SEO campaigns by helping you to produce more high-quality content in a shorter amount of time. The key is to learn how to use AI effectively when generating written copy and images for your content.
We’re here to help. As digital marketing specialists who anticipated the rise of AI and remain in lock-step with new developments in the space, our team has a solid grasp of the best ways to make these tools work for you instead of against you—and we’ve shared some insights below to help you put AI to work in your content marketing efforts.
Stylizing Stock Images with Midjourney
As a discord-based AI image generator, Midjourney is both powerful and accessible. However, while it’s fun to play with asking the AI to draw things like a cat riding a motorcycle through a ring of fire (we’ll get to that later), there are more practical ways to use it for your marketing content.
One of Midjourney’s best features for content creators is its ability to generate images using existing photos as guides. Midjourney can do this with stock images, too—like this one, for example:
This is a typical stock image—perfectly functional for, say, a blog, but not exactly a one-of-a-kind image. Now, let’s prompt Midjourney to create an image based on the photo above, but in a more unique style:
Prompt: /imagine HVAC contractor fixing air conditioner art deco style
These aren’t exactly technical (so they wouldn’t make great supporting images)—but they’re much more eye-catching as potential feature images for a blog post about AC repair than the stock image above. Asking the AI to apply different art styles (art deco, cubist, modern, pop art, etc.) to stock images can be a great way to create unique assets for blogs and infographics.
Drafting Logos & Icons As Vector Graphics
Midjourney can also be extremely useful for brainstorming logos and icons. Here’s an example:
Prompt: /imagine vector art logo for HVAC repair business, minimalist, clean, cartoon style, smiling technician, uniform, tool, friendly, approachable, helpful
While there are some obvious things that don’t work about the images above (like the text), this is pretty incredible when you consider that it’s a first draft based on a single-sentence prompt that took all of ten seconds to type.
Note also that although we’ve asked for vector images in the prompt, Midjourney produces these images as .png files by default—still, you could port them into Photoshop, adjust them, and reformat them in much less time than it would take to design a logo from scratch.
Using ChatGPT for Faster Lists & FAQs
Let’s pivot away from images for a while and look at using AI to produce written copy. Effective content is an essential component of any rank and bank SEO strategy. ChatGPT is going to be our workhorse here, due to its reputation, power, and ease of use.
As we’ve noted in other articles, ChatGPT produces grammatically-perfect text quickly but doesn’t think for you—meaning it won’t argue from specific positions or intuitively write in the voice of your brand unless you’re very specific about prompting it to do so. However, ChatGPT is phenomenal at reorganizing and displaying information, making it an excellent way to create Pros & Cons or FAQ sections for blogs and landing pages in a fraction of the time it used to take.
Here are some notes I took about the pros and cons of 3-tab vs. architectural shingles for a roofing client. As you can see, these are very general and pretty unpolished (inconsistent terminology, spelling and grammar errors, etc.):
But here’s what I get by pasting the same notes into ChatGPT after the following prompt:
Prompt: Use these notes to create pros and cons lists for 3-tab and architectural shingles, including the best applications for each. Provide 1-2 sentences describing each bullet point
[PASTED NOTES]
Not only has ChatGPT cleaned up my rough notes, but it has also provided useful context for each point. I still need to tweak the language a bit to remove redundancies and make it fit my client’s voice, but 90% of the work has been done in 10% of the time.
Lightning Fast Metadata
Meta descriptions and titles are essential aspects of your blogs and landing pages, but writing them can get repetitive and time-consuming. Enter ChatGPT:
Prompt: Create meta descriptions (under 159 characters each) for the following pages on the website for a roofing company called Graham’s Exteriors:
- Roof replacements
- Roof repairs
- Gutter Guards
- Residential flat roofing
- Sun tunnels & skylights
This took 5 seconds instead of 5 minutes, and they’re good. I might tweak them by taking out some of the more generic text, but the time I’m saving here is still well worth it.
Embracing AI to Stay Relevant in The New Content Landscape
Tools like Midjourney and ChatGPT aren’t yet in a position to replace graphic designers or copywriters, but they’re evolving quickly. If you’re making content, the single best thing you can do is learn the finer points of these tools so that you can use them to add more value to your work.
It’s never been easier to make content than it is right now—but that also means it takes more strategy and skill to make content that stands out. P.S.—here’s what we promised earlier:
Prompt: a grey and white cat riding a motorcycle through a ring of fire, heavy metal art style, intense, exciting, awe-inspiring
